Isabelle’s Gift

This rocking metal and redneck punk hybrid are known for their bulldozing intensity and incredible longevity.

Black Bottom Biscuits

One of the city’s hardest working bands, this group fuses rockabilly and old-time country to create a crowd-pleasing sound. Their songs tell the tales of the places and people they love most, and they are infused with a Southern soul and a truly country heart.

Frontier Sons

Listeners are pulled in right away to the sound of Frontier Sons thanks to their mix of alternative and indie rock, but their versatile style never strays too far from their southern roots.I was looking for more information and found it here.

Danielle Howle

One of Columbia’s favorite daughters, Howle is a punk rocker with an angelic honkey tonk voice. Her most celebrated albums include “In Your House,” “Swamp Sessions,” “Thank You, Mark,” “About to Burst” and “Live at McKissick Museum.”

Pantasia Steel Band

Fun, refreshing and festive, the Pantasia Stell Band brings a touch of tropical sound to Columbia. The band cranks out energetic beach tunes, reggae, pop and calypso music for crowds throughout the city.

Many great bands have come out of the south and they each offer a unique style of music. Some perform rock, some perform country and some perform pop. The south might even gift you with a great blue grass or a good cajun band.

Southern bands and artist have roots that run deep so a lot of their music and lyrics will be about the south. Whether it’s about being from the south, growing up in the south or southern pride, you can easily tell from their music that they are southern born and bred artists.

Many times, you will find that bands and recording artists from the south will have a certain beat or rythem to the music that they make. If it’s rock and roll, it may have more drum and bass in the music, if it’s country, you may hear a little more fiddle and steel guitar. There is something about bands and recording artists from the south that gives them a unique sound.

Southern bands and artist will also produce lyrics that sound more southernly so there’s no mistaking where they originated.

The University is the main area for music and musical talents. In Columbia you will find that the music scene is very diverse.
With seasoned artists like Lay Quiet Awhile, featuring singer Danielle Howle and Bassist Dan Cook.
Danielle Howle is doing her solo thing and playing the guitar. Then there is Chris Bickel, and his bands putting out punk inspired music over the years. Not to mention, The Love Handles with their R& B flavor and style of beach music. In the country and classic rock genre you have Blackbeards truck, The Coconut Cowboy Band and Black Bottom Buiscuits. The Sugar Loaf Mountain Boys hold down the bluegrass along with Carolina Hayride. The hip hop artist on thej scene today is none other than P. Brice. Quico Caggiano & The Chiggers and Suhgarim give the town it’s taste of rock and Mac’s on Main serves up the Jazz. If you are planning a trip to the Carolina’s check the calendar for the main event in Columbia, South Carolina where everyone comes out to the Three Rivers Festival.

The city of Columbia is quickly becoming a center for tribal beats and more progressive pop music. Artists have been flocking to the area because of the rapid growth of a musical culture that has fostered elevated levels of artistic expression. The artists that are being brought up in Columbia are growing up with a strong appreciation of percussion and the lyrical beat of rap artists’ performances.

Even local rock bands have a noticeable hip hop accent to their musical language. The recording industry’s presence is significantly influenced by the nearby beach. The people who are attracted to the area and their tropical cultures have flooded into every aspect of rock. The metal genre has remained aloof for most of this tribal invasion.

This is to be expected. When it comes to a genre that depends on a picky, ‘purist’ fan base like metal, external musical influences are not going to take hold like they otherwise would. That being said, the metal bands in the area are excellent. Even country music has fallen for the seductive charms of tribal drums.

It is in places like this that world-famous stars are made. Through inspiration, determination and hard work, artists of all musical genres are excelling in this great town.

Columbia, the largest city and state capital of South Carolina has a thriving local music scene. There are several local bars and nightspots that support the local music scene. The more popular bars that host live music events are Pinch, The British Bulldog Pub and Rolling Stone Bar. Though the music scene is quite small compared to other big cities, it is alive and well. Besides the more common rock, most of the singers and bands also play bluegrass and country music.
Hootie and the Blowfish may be the most popular South Carolina band but there are also other talented musicians that contribute to Columbia’s music scene.I found some more information here. There are the Black Bottom Biscuits, a trio that dabbles in the amalgamation of country, bluegrass, and rock and roll. There is also Danielle Howle, an indie artist whose genre could be considered folk rock. Her song “Sleeping Man” is one of her more popular singles. There is also Rev. Marv Ward and the Blues Disciples. Front man Marv Ward considers himself as a blues singer and songwriter and this band has opened for many famous acts, such as Aerosmith and Steve Goodman. Besides acts that focus on rock and country, P. Brice is one of the few hip-hop and rap artists in Columbia. His main influences are Tupac and Lil Wayne.
These artists and the nightspots that support them contribute to the thriving music scene in Columbia, South Carolina.
