Columbia Concert Band Board Meeting Minutes –May 3, 2004

The meeting began at 9:22 PM.

President’s report:

Update on Maryland Community Band Day:

*       We will need canopies for shade if anyone has them.

*       A sign up sheet will go around at the next rehearsal to recruit volunteers

*       Belair Community Band will be sponsoring next years event on 6/12/05 (we need to include this in the program)

*       Roger will ask CA if they have signs for the parking lot to direct people to the extra parking and to the stage.

*       As part of the program we would like to include names of local restaurants for lunch and dinner. Would anyone be willing to solicit the restaurants at the Lakefront to sell them ads in our program? – great advertising for them and a help to us to offset the costs of printing.  Perhaps:

1/3 page            2 ¾” x 5 ½”  $25.00 (perfect for a business card)

2/3 page            5 ½” x 5 ½”  $40.00

Full Page          8 ½” x 5 ½”  $60.00

*       Atholton will lend us stands, we just have to coordinate the pick up and delivery.

*       Anybody have any connections to a bottled water source where we can get lots of bottles at a good price or donated???  This could be a free ad in our program book!!!

Thanks to:

Len Morse for doing the press releases for the June concert and MD Community Band Day.

Mark Romanoff for doing the program for the June concert.

Scott Lipcon for tirelessly trying to work out the details with our equipment trailer and the moving of equipment.

Treasurer’s report:

Maurice distributed copies of the Treasurer’s Report. Our finances are on the low side at the moment. For the period dated March 29, 2004 to May 5, 2004 we had a total income of $730.00, which was a result of a jazz band gig in Kensington and donations for the jazz band CDs.  Our total expenses were $2454.35 for the month ( mostly room rental fees – HMS and AHS), leaving a checkbook balance of $1515.42 and a savings balance of $8256.57.

Maurice is checking into hiring someone to record all of the bands at Maryland Community Band Day and making CDS for each band to take.  He has one price so far of $500.00.

New Business:

Roger will be out of town for 5 weeks this summer.  Harriet had agreed to be his back up.

Old Business:

We are moving!!!!  It is official as of the June 7th rehearsal we will be in our new rehearsal space at River Hill High School on Route 108 in Clarksville.  Joe Fischer, the band Director, has graciously agreed to give us his band room and equipment on Monday evenings.  He has asked if he could store and use our 4 tympani in his band room during Marching Band Season as he would like to keep his tympani on a cart ready to move down to the field for each game.  We will need to check on the condition of our tympani.

Roger will file the necessary paperwork with Chuck Parvis at the Board of Education.

As excited as we are about the larger space we also are eternally grateful to Robert Miller for sharing his band room with us these past 14 or so years.  Thank you so much Robert.
