FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: CONTACT: Columbia Concert Band Children’s Concert Columbia, Maryland, September 1st, 2005 — The Columbia Concert Band will be performing their annual Young People’s Concert, which will feature selections chosen to entertain parents as well as children. The concert will have a “Western” theme that includes “Last Ride of the Pony Express”, a movement from “Americana Folk Suite”, “Go West!”, which features soundtrack music from the heyday of spaghetti Westerns, and “Prairie Dances”, a piece that highlights both the adventure and beauty of the “Old West”. As has been a long-standing tradition with the children’s concert, small groups from within the band will play variations of the favorite “Do-Re-Mi”, from “The Sound of Music”. The concert will be on Sunday, October 2nd at 3:00 p.m. at Atholton High School, 6520 Freetown Road in Columbia, Maryland. Admission is free and no tickets are required. This concert is possible, in part, thanks to the Howard County Arts Council through a grant from the Howard County Government. The Columbia Concert Band is a non-profit community band that has been performing for local communities since 1983. The band’s purpose is to give non-professional musicians the opportunity to perform challenging band literature while entertaining the public in the Baltimore and Washington regional areas. The band is affiliated with Howard Community College, which gives credit to students for band participation.
